What is the SIG?
Landscape photography is a genre of photography that focuses on capturing images of outdoor spaces from inland scenery to coastal locations to urban cityscapes and even astrophotography.
Landscape photography is a fabulous genre of photography that can take you to new places to enjoy the great outdoors as well as capturing new images.
The primary aim of the Landscape SIG is to share knowledge and skills that will help us all improve our landscape photography as well as having some fun along the way practising our craft on location. In Wiltshire we have some fabulous locations not far from Swindon but we also go further afield.
Who is it for?
The Landscape SIG is for anyone who enjoys being outdoors and trying to make an image that captures the scene in a compelling way whether that be a technicolor sunset or an abstract landscape in miniature at your feet and everything in between.
Sunrises and sunsets in the summer months can require early starts/late finishes and the winter trips can be cold but these will normally reward those willing to put in the effort. Ideally you will have your own transport but car sharing is normally possible.
What do you think a new member would learn?
The SIG is not a formal training environment but one where techniques and ideas can be shared and practised, learning from each other; both on the day and on Zoom sessions. We cover all aspects of Landscape photography from trip planning to composition skills to on location creativity and post processing.
How Often do you meet?
We meet monthly on Zoom for a presentation on a particular aspect of landscape photography plus sharing images (both successes and failures) from recent trips and also planning the next trips. Recent Zoom talks have covered:
- Compelling Black & White images
- Weather
- Coastal Landscapes
- Flower Power
- The Perfect Exposure?
We have a monthly planned location trip diaried in advance plus numerous Ad Hoc trips called at short notice normally when weather conditions look favourable.
Most trips will involve a cafe stop for a chat!
