Summer Programme – Charney Watermill, Charney Basset
August 17, 2017 at 18:30
Charney watermill, Charney Basset – Power
Charney watermill is a 3-storey building built in 1807, which still contains the 19th century cast-iron machinery and two pairs of millstones. The mill is open to visitors by appointment only and we’ve arranged for SPS members to visit on 17th August from 6.00-8.00 pm. A donation of £2.00 each is requested as a contribution to the restoration of the mill.
The Mill is opposite the Manor House and Church in Charney Bassett. Other points of interest in the village include the Church of St Peter, which dates back to the 12th century and has a Romaneque relief showing the ascension of Alexander the Great above one of the doorways. Charney Manor was built in the 13th century and is currently a Quaker relief and conference centre.
