Great Coxwell, Barn, Great Coxwell

The great barn is the surviving part of a 13th century farm and was used to provide tithes to Beaulieu Abbey. Built from Cotswold stone rubble walling, the barn has an impressive Gothic timber frame inside.

The barn is managed by the National Trust, which asks visitors to leave at ‘dusk’. There is often no NT staff on site and they do not physically close the doors and lock up at as it gets dark, they just ask people to leave and have an honesty box for the entry fee (non-members). There is no power supply in the barn, if you want to use lights they need to be battery operated. Naked flames are of course prohibited.

Great Coxwell is 12 miles north-east of Swindon up the A420 towards Oxford. How to get there –Faringdon. Parking at the barn is in a layby at the side of the road. There are no toilet facilities at the barn.
