August 23, 2018 at 18:00 - 20:00
This evening will now be postponed until 23rd August.
There will be NO meeting on 16th August.
Full details and an explanation coming soon!!!
16th August | The two steam engines at Crofton, were built 200 years ago to pump water 12m up to a pond at the summit of the Kennet & Avon canal. Today electric pumps carry out the job of topping up the canal with water. But the steam engines still work and are run a few weekends each year.
On Thursday 16th, the volunteers at the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust have agreed to stay open late for our visit (6.00-8.00pm). Entry will cost £4.00 per person. https://www.croftonbeamengines.org/
Pub: The Three Horseshoes, Stibb Green, Burbage. Meet at the pub at 8-8.30pm. http://www.threehorseshoesburbage.co.uk/
How to get there Crofton Beam engines are 21 miles south-east of Swindon. From Swindon follow signs to Marlborough then take the A346 towards Salisbury. At the Burbage roundabout take the A338 to East Grafton then turn left up Dark Lane following signs to Crofton and the beam engines. There is an on-site car park. Access is limited for wheelchair users, and steep stairs inside the pumping station make access difficult for anyone using walking sticks.
